楊元通

Yeo Gwan Htong

( 1894 - 1935 )

楊清欣  之长男

出生霞阳,缅甸华侨楊清欣的长子,霞陽小学毕业后上中学直至大学。1924年旅缅期间,楊昭固接掌《缅甸晨报》改名《缅甸新报》邀他出任经理,也担任仰光植德堂公司的评议员。1929年回中国,1930年在厦门集资创办《华侨日报》。在厦期间,十分关心霞阳村群众生活,开发荒地,普种桐油树,绿化山头。1935年夏在霞阳村海口游泳时身亡。1993年3月其后人也继承他的遗志,向霞陽小学捐资港币11万元设立楊元通“奖学奖教基金会”。

Yeo Gwan Htong, born in Xiayang, went to middle school and university after graduating from Xiayang primary school. Being a Sit Teik Tong (STT) scholar, his first service in the STT committee was to author the inscription on the STT Inauguration Tablet in 1924. He was invited to join the board of trustees of STT. Later he was appointed as the manager of the Chinese newspaper “Burma New Daily”. He returned to China in 1929 and raised funds in Xiamen to establish the Overseas Chinese Daily in 1930. During his stay in Xiamen, he worked with the Xiayang Village people to improve the standard of living, developed wasteland, and greened the hills. In March 1993, his descendants inherited his legacy and donated HK$110,000 to Xiayang Primary School to establish the “Yeo Gwan Htong Scholarship and Education Foundation”.
