Yeo Gwan Htong, born in Xiayang, went to middle school and university after graduating from Xiayang primary school. Later he was appointed as the manager of the Chinese newspaper “Burma New Daily”. He returned to China in 1929 and raised funds in Xiamen to establish the Overseas Chinese Daily in 1930. During his stay in Xiamen, he worked with the Xiayang Village people to improve the standard of living, developed wasteland, and greened the hills. In March 1993, his descendants inherited his legacy and donated HK$110,000 to Xiayang Primary School to establish the “Yeo Gwan Htong Scholarship and Education Foundation”.
