HaiTeng / HaiTing / HaiCheng, The County, The Town
Haicheng County was established in year 1644, in the era of JiaJin Emperor, Ming Dynasty. It had been one of the more better-known place name within the ChangChow Prefecture. Over the years, the territory expanded to cover villages from neighouring counties like ChangPor. Located at the river-mouth of JiuLong Jiang, Haichen Town was developed to house the government office of the Prefecture. In 1913, Chang Chow Prefecture ceased to exist.
In 1958, HaiCang township and Xin’An township came under the Xiamen Municipal District government. The other villages situated on the opposite bank of JiuLong Jiang came under the Zhangzhou (ChangChow in HanyuPinyin name) municipal government. Haicheng, the namesake nowadays, only refers to Haicheng Town in LongHai District of Zhangzhou Municipality.
