Example Movements of Xiayang Yeoh’s

A rare volume of Xiayang Yeoh/Yeo's genealogy book reveals interesting multi-generational movements from the hometown to Taiwan, Penang and beyond.

Thanks to Yeoh Guan Huah who has shared his very precious genealogy book with us.  This rare volume has passed from the 5th generation  (1431-1495) until the 21st generation, incorporating more than 500 years of a specific lineage of Xiayang Yeoh/Yeo’s that set a strong foot in Penang.  There were ancestral records of emigration to Taiwan as early as in the Emperor KangXi era.  Later from mid-19th century to early 20th century, there were noticeable mentions of betrothals and burials in places of Southern Burma (Myanmar) from Rangoon to Moulmein, and even to Taungoo. The latters were supporting evidence of multi-generational movements over this northward stretch of land further away from ancestral hometown Xiayang, carried out in the hearty kinship of this 楊 clan.

Yeoh Oon Cheong‘s 5-generation family tree can be viewed on this website.
